Some information about Navratri:
Navratri is celebrated for 9 nights which begins on October 7 and ends on October 15th. Also known as Sharda Navratri, this festival is observed in Hindu Lunar month called Ashwin. On the first day, devotees worship the daughter of the mountain, Goddess Shailputri.
Bengalis celebrate Durgo Puja during these 9 days by paying their respect to the nine incarnations of goddess Durga.
This celebration sums up to the celebration of good over evil. Devotees plead the Gods and Goddesses to restore dharma. Bengalis design pandals, decorate them and hold pujas, feasts and fun activities are organised to celebrate the festival. Everyone is dressed in their best. Idols of Goddess Durga, Goddess Laxmi, Lord Ganesha, Lord Kartikeya and Goddess Saraswati are installed. Devotees keep fasts. Some fast on the first and the last Navratri and some keep it on all 9 days.
