The aim of International Dog Day, along with other holidays created by Colleen (including National Puppy Day, National Mutt Day and National Cat Day) is to bring awareness to the condition of animals as well as to encourage adoption. And, of course, to celebrate all dogs everywhere. 

No one can win hearts like man’s best friend and in honor of this bond between man and canine, National Dog Day is celebrated.
